Our Northwest Dallas area client company is seeking a Senior SQL Database Administrator / Developer with expertise in T-SQL development, troubleshooting and optimization to join their DevOps team and to collaborate closely with business intelligence stakeholders, software developers, product managers, client services, IT Operations, and QA. In this role, you will manage MS SQL Server databases, services, and tools running in a hybrid on-prem and Azure Managed SQL Instance Cloud environment. You will further maintain database uptime, stability, performance, and security to ensure the highest customer service levels while leveraging your passion for data engineering to design, develop, and implement ETL solutions.
The successful candidate must be willing to work in a highly collaborative primarily onsite software development environment; be able to review, analyze and debug T-SQL code; have experience with AlwaysOn Availability Groups and Windows Clustering; and be able to: develop complex SQL scripts, functions and stored procedures; support and enhance databases running on Azure Managed SQL Instance(s); support development groups with database setup, configuration, optimization, and other modifications; manage production database servers to ensure robust security, high availability and performance; optimize data workloads across cloud and/or on-prem environments to stay ahead of business demand while minimizing costs; actively monitor databases and take preventive or corrective action to swiftly resolve issues that arise; implement policies and procedures for database backups, DR, security protocols, and data integrity; maintain lower-level development, QA, and staging environments to support efficient development throughout the SDLC; and be ab le to adhere closely to change control and related ITIL practices.
S/he will further be able to: create comprehensive diagrams and documentation that accurately captures database state; participate in architecture planning to prepare the business for significant future growth; develop a roadmap to establishing a new Data Warehouse model; provide best practice guidance on the design of data models and database structures across relational database platforms; assist in development, support, and implementation of data engineering projects such as data pipelines and warehouses; and assist in development of methods to manipulate large, complex data sets to be effectively consumed and interpreted within reporting toolsets.
To be considered, candidates must be either a U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident (green card holder); have a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or relevant discipline; have 5 years’ experience supporting SQL Server databases in production environments that utilize AlwaysOn Availability Groups and Windows Clustering; have 5 years’ experience writing complex T-SQL to develop a variety of database objects (schemas, tables, stored procedures, triggers); have 4 years’ experience in database tuning and query optimization through analysis of Execution Plans and Dynamic Management Views, and usage of Extended Events; have 3 years’ experience with developing packages within SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS); and have 2 years’ experience with developing reports within Power BI and/or SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS). Though not required, experience with PowerShell scripting and DevOps are a plus.
